Abstract: Through the ages, many scholars have been interested in the study of Zhuangzi. The academic history of Zhuangzi studics can be seen as a shadow of the history of Chinese scholarship. In the light of historical records, this paper systematically combs and explores the previous representative achievements of classical Zhuangzi studies, and comprehensively shows the overall picture and the characteristics of the times of Chinese Zhuangzi studies in the long history. Unlike the characteristics of the times of metaphysics, Buddhism, Neo Confucianism and westernization in the past, since the 1980s, modern Zhuangzi studies have no longer been banned by political ideology. In recent years, philosophy of life has become a new research focus.
