A Study on the Ecological Thoughts of the Book Yinzhiwenxiangzhu

Abstract: The thoughts of taking care of ecology and protecting life is very important in the whole ideological system of the book Yinzbiwenxiangzbu(Annotations of the book Yinzhiwen (《陰騭文》) with words and pictures) (《陰騭文像注》) in which Taoist thoughts cherishing creatures in books of persuading beneficence circulated in moderm times are spread. The thoughts in Yinzhiwenxiangzbu (《陰騭文像注》) is centered on the thoughts of non-action, ziran(naturalness) (自然) , the unity of man and nature and yinzhi (陰騭) , combined with the Confucian thoughts of benevolence, righteousness, filial piety, loyalty and integrity, as well as the Buddhist thoughts of equality of all sentient beings, karma, reincatmation, and lenient compassion.The book Yinzhiwenxiangzbu (《陰騭文像注》) points out that there should be harmonious rclaionship between all beings, and animals regardless of size must not be killel without restraint. When it comes to persuading beneficence, the book Yinzhiwenxiangzhu (《陰騭文像注》) underlines the importance of the methods of ganying(response) (感應) and revelation of gods, combined with some operation methods in 1 aishangganyingpian(Tractate of the Most High One on Actions and Consequences) (《太上感應篇》) and Gongguoge(The Records of Mcrits and Demerits) (《功過格》) to make Taoist persuasion more popular and simple.The book Yinzbiwenxiangzhu (《陰騭文像注》) played a role of inhering the past and ushering in the future, in the Taoist ecological ethic and the establishment of ecological beliefs and is of great inspiration to contemporary environmental protection and life maintenance.
