Abstract: The question of life and death is an extreme problem faced by philosophers. In the face of this crisis, both Zhuangzi and Zhengmeng share their own unique world structure through the Qi theory, in which believes that the gathering and dispersing of Qi explains life and death. Based on the fierce criticism of the Buddhist and Daoist theory about life and death, Zhengmeng established the Confucian idea about life and death, and most of its basic points can be found in Zhuangzi. Zhuangzi viewed life and death as one from the perspective of beyond the linear time measure connected with the Dao realm, fundamentally transcending the fear of death and reaching the final realm of freedom. By comparing the two views of life and death, we can see the concrete implementation of the confluence of Confucianism and Daoism.
